Whether you are working, studying, or just passing by, we offer various services that can enhance your skills and help you stay up to date with societal and scientific changes. Below, you can find more information about the bespoke services we provide.
Are you visiting the West Hub? Come and see us at the Information Desk on the First Floor, and we will be happy to share all the relevant information with you.
Collection
Our Hub collection combines both physical and digital resources that support departmental teaching for various STEMM subjects (see more below). Additionally, it caters to general learning, well-being, information, personal and professional growth, as well as family reading. The books and magazines are curated by University Librarians, who focus on providing reliable information sourced to support individuals from any academic background, as well as those from outside the academic environment.
All books are displayed on the second floor in the North Room and near the Pods. The magazines can be found on the first floor, by the stairs. If you need assistance, please reach out to a librarian at the Information Desk on the first floor.

The library team can support you gain skills, keeping informed, signposted to the right services and much more.
Examples of services that may interest you:
- Our Open Programme sessions, for example, presentation skills, poster design for conferences, LaTeX and much more. Different sessions are offered at different times of the year. Keep informed by subscribing to our West Hub newsletter and visiting our Learn Library section.
- 1-2-1 Support in addition to the Open Programme. Book a 1-2-1
- Resources to support you in keeping up to date with changes in society and the work environment.
- The Research Cafés are events to connect with the researcher community from different fields and sectors and also raise your profile as a researcher. Open to everyone, the opportunity to engage with startups and companies will be available.

Wherever you are a University student, self-taught, at school or on a course, our library services and expertise are available to everyone!
All students from all years and levels can engage with our services, where we can advise or/and connect with the right expert for specialist support.
Some of the sessions we offer to all students include:

- Resources to support you in keeping up to date with changes in society and workshops such as presentation skills, conference posters, referencing and much more;
- Presentation Skills;
- Searching the literature for my projects or dissertation;

The West Hub also houses a teaching and research physical book collection with in house departmental librarian for:

We implement projects and initiatives in collaboration with librarians across other STEMM subjects, the OSC (University Library) and others, to strengthen the research support offering.
With workshops sessions, resources, subject expertises and much more, our Research support is open and available to everyone.
Examples of services that may interest you:
- Researcher Development Programs: Collaborating with STEMM librarian, OSC and the PdOCs to develop researcher events and programmes tailored to the needs of the Schools. This includes collaboration for workshops, drop-in sessions, sessions on research impact and visibility, and opportunities for networking and collaboration such as the Research Cafés.
- Research Support Services: Working on support and expanding access to academic databases, providing assistance with literature searching, and offering training sessions on effective research skills such as "Data management", "Publishing in journals", "Online profile" and much more. Book a 1-2-1 with a member of the library team.
- Open Access Support: Supporting University of Cambridge Researchers to understand REF requirements promoting institutional repository, assisting researchers with compliance to open access policies, and explaining the benefits of open access publishing to researchers from all sectors.
- Data Management Support: Providing workshop sessions and 1-2-1, with guidance on data management planning and best practices and assisting researchers with data sharing and preservation.
- Research Impact Metrics: Assisting with identifying relevant impact metrics, understanding DORA, and offering support for maximizing research visibility through platforms such as ORCID and others. For members of the University of Cambridge, see more information under 'Publishing' on our website.
- Collaborative Spaces: The West Hub offers collaborative spaces open to everyone and free of charge. The work/study space in our building, was designed to be flexible workspaces that facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration, with whiteboards to be freely moved around and used by anyone in the building. We also offer some meeting rooms and Pods that can be booked for more private meetings or online calls.

If you are just passing by the West Hub, we can also support you to make the most of your visit. In addition to all services listed above that are available to everyone independent of profession or affiliation with the university, we also offer:
Hub book collection: consists of a physical collection supporting learning, wellbeing, Information, Personal Growth and Family, all items were selected for the general public and not specific to subjects and fields. The books are curated by University Librarians focusing on reliable up to date information sources to support the community.
The Hub Collection is located on the second floor, by the pods, and although members of the public can't borrow, it can be used for reference in the building. Browse our Hub Collection
Magazines: We curated a list of Magazines to help you keep informed about what is happening in the work, titles such as The Economist, The Times, New Scientist, Wired, National Geographic and others, are available to everyone to use in the building. We also thought about your holidays, the Traveller from National Geographic, is also available to you. All latest edition magazines, are displayed on the first floor by the stairs.
West Hub Wellbeing Books: Discover our curated collection of Wellbeing books, tailored to support you through the pressures of life/work/study. Dive into resources that nurture mental health, resilience, and self-care as you navigate this challenging time. All books are displayed on the second floor, by the pods.
