Open Spaces
Designed with people in mind and informed by research from University of Cambridge Libraries & Archives on study and work practices, the West Hub provides a wide range of open, adaptable spaces available without booking.
Options include desks, high-level pods, secluded booths, and sofas, supporting individual study, group work, and informal use. These areas are also designed to encourage social interaction, offering settings for activities such as having coffee or reading.

Bookable Spaces
In addition to open seating areas, the West Hub offers a range of bookable spaces designed to support meetings, events, digital content creation, and focused individual or group work.
Our multi-function rooms are highly versatile and can be adapted for lectures, seminars, workshops, conferences, training sessions, and even wellbeing activities such as yoga. Meeting rooms are ideal for smaller gatherings, collaborative planning, or breakout discussions. The Media Lab is a purpose-built facility for digital content creation, including podcasting, filming, and media training.
For quieter, more private work, the Hub offers a variety of pods available to book. These include individual pods for one-person, open booths for up to four people, and a fully enclosed pod for four, providing flexible options for everything from solo focus time to informal team huddles or video calls.
All bookable spaces are supported by our Events and AV teams and can be reserved to help you get the most out of your time at the Hub.

Hub Canteen
The West Hub Canteen is a central dining space that serves the diverse needs of the West Cambridge community. With multiple entry points, it connects seamlessly to the rest of the Hub and is filled with natural light from large windows that offer open views of the surrounding landscape. Open during breakfast and lunch, it provides hot meals, light options, and coffee for students, researchers, staff, and visitors.
Beyond mealtimes, the canteen is frequently used as a breakout area, a casual social setting, or an extension of events taking place elsewhere in the building. Bright, welcoming, and versatile, the space is designed to support both everyday activity and larger occasions, encouraging connection and interaction throughout the day.

Outdoor Space
The West Hub’s outdoor areas provide a natural extension of the building, offering places to relax, connect, and enjoy the surroundings. On the first floor, a spacious balcony with planting creates a calm environment and an alternative setting for coffee breaks or informal conversations. At ground level, landscaped gardens with pathways, seating, and green space encourage movement and interaction across the site. A large-scale installation by artist collective Troika forms a striking focal point, integrating art, architecture, and nature into a shared public space.
These outdoor areas also provide opportunities for public or private events, which can be arranged with the Events Team.
